Filmfans werden bei Nintendos neuer Heimkonsole wohl leider leer ausgehen. Wie Satoru Iwata auf der japanischen Nintendo Website offiziell bekannt gab wird die Wii U keine DVD‘s oder gar blu-ray‘s unterstützen. Er begründete es damit, dass der großteil der Haushalte ohnehin bereits Abspielgaräte für diese Medien hätte und die zusätzliche Technik die Kosten der Wii U nur unnötig in die Höhe getrieben hätte.

The reason for that is that we feel that enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray, such that it didn’t warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies.
